Big Green Lake - On Labor Day, with bright skies and heavy boat traffic, I hooked and landed a 7 lb 4 oz largemouth bass, my biggest of the year. Photos of this monstrous fish and its release are on my Facebook page. The link to my Facebook page is: mike.norris.7773
Bluegills are congregating in and above weed beds, outside weed edges, and deep cribs. Smallmouth bass are hunting bluegills along the outside weed edges and chasing schools of minnows out in the open water. Don't overlook cribs for gamefish. You can locate them around the drop-off areas. Largemouth bass are roaming around in weed patches where they can ambush bluegills. Look for openings in the weeds and work a drop-shot rig through it. Another great way to locate bass is to cruise along the weed edge and find schools of bluegills or giant schools of minnows hanging off the deep weed edges. A Strike King Structure Jig paired with a Rage Craw is deadly on these bigger bass right now. Lake Trout are active and moving shallower and can be caught jigging with a spoon.
Fox Lake - As I advised earlier this year, the bluegill bite on Fox Lake is as good as I have seen in several years. Walleyes are locating along the rocky drop-offs adjacent to the islands. Jigging with plastic is advised here. Crappies can be found in the same areas. Bluegills are located near the edge of healthy coon tail beds. Try a jig with a redworm or spike. Largemouth bass fishing has slowed. I will update this report when the bass fishing improves.
